Hooray! We hit a big milestone last week: the submission of our final building plans to Planning and Zoning after months of hard work with our architects and engineers. This important step also signaled the start of a public information campaign around the new building plan. Our goal is simple: to help the New Canaan community stay well informed about this project with easy access to factual information and updates on progress as we anticipate the start of a NEW New Canaan Library.

Being engaged with the Library as a member or volunteer is all you need to do to become more deeply informed. We are pleased to invite the community to keep up to date on the latest and most accurate project news through these direct channels.    

In the past year, we hit the pause button on the quiet phase of our Major Gifts fundraising effort due to concern for our neighbors and the uncertainty and fear wrought by Covid. We can’t wait to reengage with that process soon and hope to broaden our fundraising efforts a little later this year. Please reach out to me directly to discuss how you may help or contribute.  

For us (and everyone we know), it’s been a busy time. Since last March we:

  • kept the library running through challenging covid restrictions

  • created 6 new campaign volunteer committees

  • finalized our detailed Design Development plans  

  • submitted those plans last week to Planning and Zoning 

  • welcomed 7 talented new Board members 

All this achieved whilst leaping over a year’s worth of unexpected hurdles! 

If we can do all that, we can get the rest done with community support and a fresh start this March.  

I hope my optimism is contagious – let’s hope it’s the one thing that continues to spread this year!
