Spotlight on Turner Construction
If you haven’t heard, the Library elevator failed again on Monday, leaving our members and staff without service. Not very uplifting news.
Last week, it also rained INSIDE the library as much as out, hence the need for those green buckets placed everywhere - watch it live below.
While we may have to resort to asking our librarians and visitors to wear raincoats and climb ladders when they visit us in the near term, thank goodness we are working with Turner as our Construction Manager on the new Library project. They are the ones ensuring that these weekly existential threats will vanish in the new building with a carefully designed construction plan that will be launched early this summer.
Turner is a premier global construction firm with 10,000 employees worldwide whose excellent reputation and track record for building major, world-class structures is great news for our Library project.
Their experience ranges from building the incredible Burg Khalifa in Dubai to more local major building projects at Greenwich Hospital, the Stamford CT based headquarters for RBS and UBS, Yale New Haven Hospital, and even smaller but substantial local projects, like the recent renovation at St. Luke’s School and ten prior renovation projects for that campus, multiple projects for the New Canaan Country School, the rebuild of the Wilton library and the libraries at Yale University, West Hartford, and even the Darien police department!
Their vast experience on a global and local level allows them also to bring critical experience working alongside local active-use sites, so we all can feel assured that the Library may operate fully, efficiently and safely throughout the construction process.
Ty Tregallas, Project Executive at Turner, notes “Turner is delighted to be part of the team working on this transformative project for the Town. As a 25 year resident of New Canaan and a frequent book borrower and lecture attendee, I am particularly excited to participate in a project that will directly benefit me and my own thirst for learning for many years to come.”
This golden trio of award winning, nationally recognized professionals who have been engaged by the Library – Centerbrook Architects, Stephen Stimson Associates and Turner Construction - should give everyone in the community great confidence in the quality of execution and high-performance outcome we are working toward in our planning for the future of the Library campus.
