Transitions
Recently the Planning and Zoning Commission approved our building project and gave us the green light to move forward with the NEW New Canaan Library. We are grateful to the commission for their thoughtful consideration and decision-making. We believe that this approval is a win for our entire community and an exciting new chapter in our cherished Library’s 144-year history. We are confident that we can both honor the past AND deliver the beautiful and functional Library and Green as we have planned and promised. While we get underway with construction of the new Library, we are working on a plan to address the approval condition to retain a portion of the original building on the site.
We are already working with the relevant town departments to get our zoning and building permits and we expect to begin construction on September 1! You will soon see increased activity at the corner of South and Maple as we get ready for groundbreaking. This is a very exciting time!
Continue to check the www.newcanaannewlibrary website. We will continue to update it with the latest information on the project and we’ll also share news about all aspects of the project on this blog to keep you in the loop.
We project the first phase of the project, constructing the new building, will take about 18 months and we look forward to welcoming you to the new Library in spring 2023!
